Arkansas Senior Olympic Games

The entry forms for the 1999 Arkansas Senior Olympic games, September 10-19, will be mailed and are available June 15. Adults 50 and over wishing to compete can obtain the entry forms by calling the Arkansas Senior Olympic state office at 501-321-1441 or 1-800-720-7276 for information.

Arkansas Senior Olympic Games softball tournament is September 10-12. The athletic and recreational events are September 16-19. Dick Bledsoe, president of the Senior Arkansas Sports Organization stated "this will allow the athletes qualifying for the National Senior Games to compete one more time before going to Orlando. Since Arkansas is an open state we expect a large number of out of state participants to come to the September games in Hot Springs." Entry forms for the September events will be mailed to all previously registered competitors in mid-June.

The events conducted at the Arkansas Senior Olympic Games in Hot Springs are: archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, racewalk, 5K road race, racquetball, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field events and triathlon. The recreational events are: baggo, bocce, basketball/softball/football throws, spincast, skip-bo, scrabble, stationary cycling, daisy air gun and more. The winners of the recreational events are awarded ribbons and the winners of the sporting events are awarded medals.

Bledsoe stated "now is the time for the 50+ group and others to workout and be ready to compete in the senior games. Being physically fit is beneficial to all older adults in our society and helps to maintain a better quality of life and lifestyle. Participants must be 50+ by September 10, 1999 to compete in the Arkansas Senior Olympic Games."
